BBQ Cabin History
Barbecue Cabins, Barbecue Huts, Barbecue Lodges or Grillikota (literally translated from Finnish as ‘Grill House’), were developed from the traditional Kotas (similar to a tepee) used by the indigenous Sami people in Northern Lapland
The Sami are the only indigenous people in the European Union area, they live in Northern Lapland in Finland, Norway and Sweeden. In Finland, the Sami population is about 9000 strong. The Sami are generally thought of as reindeer herders and for centuries reindeer have been a main source of food, clothing, shelter and inspiration. The Sami continue to be nomadic people, who follow their reindeer during their annual migration.
