Our Roots

Arctic Cabins Ltd is a family run business, started back in 2001. Our owner, Gareth and his Finnish wife Virpi, decided to bring the traditional Grillkota BBQ hut design over to the UK back in 2001.

In Finnish Lapland, and throughout Scandinavia, Grillkota BBQ huts are part of a rich culture. Dotted throughout communities, forests and national parks, these strong wooden shelters with a central BBQ are used for cosy refuge from harsh winters. Many have been standing for over a century. They're available for all to use - communities, families, tourists alike - a big part of Scandinavian life.

After all, not every day is BBQ weather here in the UK! Our BBQ cabins allow you to BBQ and entertain in all weathers, come rain or shine. Infact, our cabins really come into their own during the cooler months, when a spot of scandinavian log cabin cosiness doesn't go amiss.

At first, all of Gareth’s BBQ cabins were imported from Scandinavia. After the demand increased significantly he decided to start manufacturing our cabins in Derbyshire, UK to ensure we could keep up with orders, and have full control over the manufacturing process and installation service. Gareth teamed up with Rick who had been a joiner and business owner for over 30 years. With Gareth’s  passion for the BBQ huts and business knowledge, along with Rick’s extensive carpentry skills, they set about designing and manufacturing the ultimate Arctic Cabins BBQ hut. This enabled us to offer a high quality product at a more competitive rate, without cutting any corners.

A patent was submitted for our unique sloping-walled design in 2014, and after 4 long years, Arctic Cabins Ltd were given the trademarked design (registered trade mark number 00003141594) for the angle-walled BBQ hut design. The walls built on an angle don’t only offer extra space within the cabin, but also the most comfortable seating position. Just ask any of our thousands of customers!

Our team of designers, product specialists, project managers, joiners, fitters and marketing experts all strive for perfection and wish to exceed all your expectations when you work with Arctic Cabins. This is why we are confident to offer a no-quibble 10 year guarantee on our BBQ huts. Because we believe in our product and we believe you should not only have peace of mind but also an amazing Arctic Cabins BBQ hut to enjoy for many years to come. Who knows, perhaps they'll stand for more than a century, just like the Grillkota in Scandinavia?!
