Glangwili Mansion is a luxury 5 star boutique style bed and breakfast in the heart of Carmarthenshire owned and run by husband and wife team Linda and George Reid. The couple had been happily and successfully running their bed and breakfast business for a few years in 2012 though not content to rest on their laurels, George and Linda began working on plans to further develop the business to offer guests exclusive hospitality and houseparty packages.
They had done their research and knew these inclusive packages were popular and it was something that they felt confident that they could offer at Glangwili to a high standard. It is fair to say that developing another income stream was quite high on the agenda for Linda and George too.
After seeing Arctic’s barbecue cabins at Grand Designs Live at the NEC in October 2012 George and Linda were convinced that a cabin was exactly what they were looking for, they purchased a 10m² cabin for the grounds of Glangwili.
Soon afterwards the Glangwili Mansion Exclusive Hospitality Package was born. The package is available to groups of guests who book all 4 suites, they then have the option of either a dinner party in the house or a barbecue in the cabin in the woodland area of the garden.
Linda said “the package has been very well received, at the moment we are getting approximately one booking per month from guests for the cabin, we do expect this to increase especially as we have just won “The Best Place to Stay – Guest Accommodation, National Tourism Awards for Wales 2015, this has given us lots of extra kudos and PR which is increasing the awareness of our business significantly.”
The barbecue cabin has enabled the Reid’s to be able to offer guests a fully catered option in addition to their core bed and breakfast business. Linda said “the cabin is so versatile, we can offer guest a range of menus from homemade burgers and kebabs to filet of sea bass with chilli, lime and ginger or Moroccan spiced spatchcock chicken and jewelled cous cous. I cook for our guests then when the tricky bit is done I leave the guests to enjoy their evening and finish off.”
Barbecue Cabins come in a range of sizes and can accommodate 5 to 50 guests. The cabin at Glangwili Mansion is a 10m² cabin and seats 15. Linda said “the cabin is the perfect size for us, it can accommodate most parties and celebrations, our cabin tends to be used for family get-togethers, 40th birthdays, 21st birthdays, hen-parties and also corporate and charity events, we even had a cello recital on the decking last summer.”
Not only do barbecue cabins provide an additional income stream, they are different, novel and quirky providing businesses with a competitive advantage over their competitors plus there is the added benefit that they are there for the business owners. George said “we have had many fantastic evenings in the cabin with family and friends – it has made us very popular! It is often difficult for us to leave the premises because we have guests so to be able to invite our friends and family round for a barbecue which doesn’t interrupt our business is a huge bonus for us. We use the cabin for meetings sometimes, it has such a lovely atmosphere away from the phone and the internet, it gives us time to think and plan.”
